Built, Not Bought, Custom
Interior Metal RailingAn interior metal railing is a raised guard, barrier or balustrade that prevents people from falling from an upper level to a lower level. Ones in the interior are usually found on staircases, balconies or staircase openings. These creative metalworks are typically made of metal, wood, glass or cable. When two sections are welded together to form a balustrade or banister, they are called rails. Interior railings may be fixed or constructed in a cage-like structure.

Function
Interior banisters perform by stopping objects such as adults, children and pets from falling over the edge or being knocked off the ledge into lower levels. They usually has a color-coded system to help prevent people from falling. Some systems have locking mechanisms to keep people from climbing over them which what we call a railing with a gate. The project is always fully welded and anchored in the floor and can move the entire piece up to other floors. This serves the purpose of safety and can also offer a very nice aesthetic value to the property. Design And ConstructionHere at 83-MetalCraft-LLC in Colorado Springs we specialize in metal railings and creative metalworks that can consist of other materials such as wood, glass or cable, but they are always in unison with our welded metal framework to ensure maximum safety. Using metal and welding to create custom metal fabrication allows us to have no boundaries design-wise as long as we are always code compliant making us one of the best if not the best railing suppliers around. The days of drab, outdated ornamental railing iron works are over. These days, with the help of modern metals and design techniques, we can create many interior pieces of varying designs and colors to meet your specific tastes to match the Decor of your interior. One of the hottest creative metalworks designs around for the last several years and we believe, many decades to come is the horizontal metal railing. The horizontal railing allows the homeowner to not have a caged in effect while they are in their residence and many different shapes of materials can be used such as round, flat, and square. Horizontal railing also allows for a much cleaner, sleek look that is softer on the eyes and allows for more visual clarity in spaces- frankly, it is amazing when we can enter a home and replace an old wood rail with a new metal rail and how much the space is opened up visually simply by making the change. Not only the visual change for the homeowner, but your new ironworks railing will become an added centerpiece to your home just like a new kitchen or bathroom adds the same effect. Another added benefit to having a metal railing versus a wood rail is the strength and the finish. Most wood rails have a varnish or clear coat which can wear over time as well as the wood becoming wallowed out and loose with pressure over time. Steel will not move, and in our case, everything is powder coated locally in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Powder coating has advantages such as a larger custom color selection and because it is a polymer, lasts much longer than traditional paint and does not require any maintenance such as repainting once a year or chipping or fading. Powder coat is done once and if done correctly and treated with respect in the home, will never have to be done again over the life of the metal railing, which adds beauty, strength and long lasting durability. We have personally used these methods in all of these markets-Pueblo, Woodland Park, Castle Rock, Denver, Aurora, Highlands Ranch, Cherry Creek, Westminster, Boulder, Golden Colorado, Loveland, Breckenridge, Dillon, Vail, Silverthorne, Georgetown, Evergreen Colorado, Ft. Collins, to achieve the desired aesthetic that our clients want for their new, modern spaces. There are other ironworks or creative metalworks designs such as a more traditional vertical style which we have gone from the days of ornamental iron cap rail to using a rectangle design for the rail top because it keeps the strength of the rail but adds a more modern, sleek look that is updated. We also tend to design these particular metal railings to be more minimalistic with the use of the rectangle top cap and a square or round infill which adds a modern, smooth look without the outdated curley whoop d whoops (victorian ornamental iron) that most people no longer gravitate towards, coupling that with modern powder coat colors adds a whole new element to a interior of a brand new home or renovation. Other added benefits of metal in general is that it can be welded and molded into any design we can think of. Reason being, is that we simply can roll, bend, heat and weld these pieces to become one of a kind that cannot be replicated, wood cannot. Wood will break, crack, snap, does not bend easily, is not heat friendly, and is soft against the screws or anchors that hold them over time due to people leaning, grabbing and putting pressure on the wood. With metal, because it is inherently stronger, as long as it is fully welded, powder coated and properly anchored with lag bolts, will not become loose, bend or break ever.. Knowing this, allows us to have other ironworks and creative metalworks designs, such as custom plasma cut infills, complete abstract designs that follow no medium other can code compliance, glass infills that are tempered, and cable. The only time we use wood is when we are designing our metal railing to have wood top infill. Wood top infills can be done with metal railing because we can design custom welded metal mounts for infilling or placing wood on top of the rail that can be anchored with strong adhesive or screws to anchor the wood infill. This allows for two-tone effect that can have an added benefit aesthetically and can many species of wood can be used. We only recommend this design for interior metal railings so that they do not become weathered outside or subjected to the high UV that most states in the Rocky Mountains have. Industry Standards ALL railing systems and ironworks need to conform to specific requirements to ensure they are safe. For example, commercial grade must not be more than 42 inches above the floor or less than 30 inches above the floor. It also must be made of a non-fragile and durable material metal or wood. Commercial code required 42 inch height and residential code requires 34 to 37 inches in height.
There are many security standards and codes that all systems must meet. The National Association of Home Builders creates these codes. The International Residential Code is a standard used in the construction industry to determine code compliance. Interior banisters apply to many different building types, including residential, commercial, industrial, and public places. Colorado Springs and our other service areas- Pueblo, Woodland Park, Castle Rock, Denver, Aurora, Highlands Ranch, Cherry Creek, Westminster, Boulder, Golden Colorado, Loveland, Breckenridge, Dillon, Vail, Silverthorne, Georgetown, Evergreen Colorado, Ft. Collins, use these same codes as they play an important role in the overall safety for the local people and keep the railing suppliers responsible. Types Of Interior Railings
Common Problems With Interior Railings Wood balustrades can fail because of age, poor maintenance, or improper installation.
Poor maintenance can cause them to malfunction and fail. For example, pipes that are near the floor may leak. Water under the tiles in a bathroom may corrode the untreated posts' causing them to break or rot, which would lead to problems with people falling into the room. You must inspect your rails, so they do not fall apart and cause injuries or death to people. That is why we are the number one railing suppliers in Colorado Springs, we build all of our product to specific requirements that is always pleasing to the eyes and code compliant and durable. |
